Tromping through Mormon Mountains

A story about Mormon Mountains Wilderness Area

In 2003, my friend Nancy Hall took me to see her Mormon Mountains. The trip out there—bumping along in Nancy’s Jeep—was an adventure in itself! Once there, we saw gorgeous desert wildflowers in vivid pink and yellow hues, and huge barrel cactuses. We tromped through cool canyons and up gentle slopes to look out across the vast and beautiful landscape. Protected as one of Nevada’s newest wilderness areas, the Mormons are a treasure for all of us, and for those who will come after. And it was Nancy’s years of letter writing, phone calling, coalition building, and organizing that helped to make it happen.
